Congratulations to PYLUC for Receiving the Fourth District PTA "Outstanding Council of the Year" for 2012-2013

We increased our membership by over 200 members to 10,162; placing us 4th highest among school districts in Orange County. We raised $4,000 for college scholarships, allowing us to hand out 10 senior scholarships-a new record for our Council! We sent more members than ever to Sacramento to advocate for adequate funding for our schools. As a whole, our members donated over 246,000 hours of volunteer work to the schools and district. The IRS values this donation of time to be worth in excess of $5.5 million dollars. The State PTA recognized our 50 years of service with a Legacy Award presented at the 114th Convention in San Jose. And finally, we received the Outstanding Council award from 4th
District PTA. This is the highest award given to a council in Orange County.

Purpose of PTA

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.
What is a Council?

A council is a group of PTA units organized under the authority of the California State PTA for the purpose of conference, leadership training, and coordination of the efforts of the member units. A council provides the units within a city, county, or area an opportunity for cooperation in promoting their common interests and conference regarding their common problems. It coordinates the work of the council's units with other agencies or organizations in the area working for children and youth. It serves as a channel of communication between the state and district PTA and the units.
